Icarus - 100 Kellogg Lane's 2026 ART COMP
Exhibition and Art Competition, London Ontario May - Sep 2026 My collage, Icarus, has been selected as a finalist at 100 Kellogg Lane's annual ART COMP: Canada's largest art competition. A collage of paper and glue on canvas, Icarus reimagines the titular myth through a surreal, contemporary lens. The work explores ambition, risk and the fragile balance between ascent and collapse. Canvas in the Sky - City of Kitchener
Installation on King St, Kitchener Dec 2025-2028 I am honoured to have my artwork fair warning selected for Canvas in the Sky, a new public art initiative transforming downtown Kitchener into an open-air gallery. Installed high above King Street, the piece becomes part of a constellation of local artworks animating the city’s downtown landscape. fair warning celebrates the act of noticing: inviting viewers to slow their pace, to attune themselves to the beauty threaded through the everyday, and to remain receptive to the quiet wonders that surround us. This work encourages a way of seeing rooted in curiosity, tenderness, and a deep sense of connection to the living world. |

Collage Explorations
Workshop, collage showcase and sale with Catherine Mellinger Date: Nov 22nd, 2025 Time: 2-6pm Location: 44 Gaukel St. Kitchener (main floor) Join local collage artists Catherine Mellinger and Nathaniel Voll in an interactive community art-making event and sale on November 22nd, from 2-6pm, on the main floor at 44 Gaukel Street, Kitchener. Catherine and Nathaniel will guide participants through collage techniques that participants can use to make something of their own. A Collaborative Community Collage from Catherine's Spring 2025 workshops will also be available for the public to continue to contribute to. Each artist will have original work and prints for sale, including pay-what-you-can pieces and larger gallery works. They invite you to come, create, ask questions, stay for a chat, and be in collage community. Free to attend, open to all ages, all materials provided. Accessible entrance at front east entrance. Gender neutral bathroom available on the main floor. |

Holiday Show and Sale
(Group exhibition) The Registry Theatre Gallery, Kitchener Nov 1, 2025 - Jan 5, 2026 Selected artworks from my 2025 exhibition, Menagerie, will be reappearing in the Registry Theatre over the winter months. Selected pieces include You are Here, Tessellation (in monochrome), and imagination. I will be at the theatre on December 7 from 12:00-2:30 for open house hours, and selling pay what you can prints of my work. The show features work by Andy Wright, Michael Chow, Nathaniel Voll, Steven Fraser, Katherine Anderson, Nicholas Rees, Jack Macauley and Susan Maver. Curated by Marian Boyer. |

Menagerie
(solo exhibition) January-March 2025 The Registry Theatre, Kitchener In this exhibition, I focused on the subjects of my collages, selecting pieces which featured people and creatures in unexpected worlds. This created a museum-like collection, featuring some of my most recent pieces which push beyond paper and onto large canvases. Artist Statement I am a collector with a keen eye for the discarded. I amass coffee table books and magazines from thrift stores and recycling bins into grand piles in my living room. I collect these papers, but also the figures, themes and landscapes therein. My collage work celebrates these collections, this menagerie of the lost and found, in artistic recycling projects which create the worlds you see in this exhibition. Each piece in Menagerie is a collection in and of itself: an amalgamation of diverse sources to assemble figures from fragments. It is these figures that make their worlds fantastic, not the other way around. Without them, their worlds would be closer to ordinary, with fewer questions about rules and relationships—a sunset, a shoreline, a back porch. The figures in my pieces command their spaces and create myths in their frozen snapshots. Like fossils in amber, they hold secrets of a world removed from ours. With the man in Icarus fall, or will he fly with the birds around him? What has become of these figures, unmoving as they are in their gallery displays? And if someone were to take such a snapshot of our unusual world, replete with both beauty and inequity, what would they hope happens next? Just like the figures in my Menagerie, we are the ones frozen in this moment, and we are what makes this world fantastic. "Sea to Sky"
(an installation as part of Downtown Kitchener's Art Walk) May 2024-2027 Excerpt from A Field Guide to DTK's Art Walk: In his analogue collages, Voll often creates abstract landscapes which challenge the viewer's expectations of reality, perspective and form. When creating Sea to Sky, they compiled disparate figures from various print sources, collaging a world removed from photorealism. Voll trimmed the images with rough edges which left borders around each element to draw the viewer's attention to the piece's surrealism. Through these hints at absurdity and the piece's connection between nature and humans, Sea to Sky invites viewers to find beauty in the compilation of diverse beings and to consider their assumptions about reality. ------ Thanks to the Downtown Kitchener BIA and KW Art Gallery for their support. |

scraps of stardust: The Analogue Collage of Nathaniel Voll
(solo exhibition) July-August, 2024 Kitchener City Hall's "Berlin Tower ARTSPACE" This exhibition built upon the themes explored in my first solo show, paperscapes. The 14 pieces selected for this exhibition addressed themes of space and interconnectedness. In my most recent pieces, I also played with form, moving beyond paper to create collages on canvas. Artist Statement Everything we touch is made of stardust. Every pebble, every paintbrush, and every scrap of paper. Sure, we have our differences. But deep down, we are all made of the same raw materials: the stuff of stars and trees, of dolphins and galaxies. When I make art, I distill each medium to its simplest definition, and create from there. For collage, that definition is: “Something with something else.” This scrap of paper with that one. This idea with that. My approach allows me to remove assumptions about what something should be, so I may discover what could be. It’s a medium of endless possibilities. The pieces in scraps of stardust are unified around the theme of interconnectedness. My artworks compile disparate elements into surreal landscapes and unfamiliar worlds, drawing attention to what seems out of place and asking: why? In a world where things often feel out of place, it is vital that we remember and honour the connections which pervade. We are connected to community, to the lands, waters, and skies above us, to the planet we inhabit, to honeybees and pelicans, and to each other. We are all made of stardust. paperscapes: The Analogue Collage of Nathaniel Voll
(solo exhibition) December 29, 2023 - February 11, 2024 Kitchener Public Library's "Gallery at Central" This exhibition is a culmination of 4 years of work in the analogue collage medium. The 30 pieces showcased in this solo exhibition address themes of interconnectedness, equity, and environmentalism. Artist Statement I create art that positions the individual as a small-but-integral part of a larger system, community, or superorganism. My collages seek to challenge the normative assumptions of our bustling everyday lives and invite viewers to consider our individual positions within grander schemes. I see collage as a community-oriented medium. It celebrates the compilation of disparate elements to comprise a greater whole, creating beauty through the unexpected connections of unrelated images. And it’s an accessible medium which anyone can pick up. Try pasting one page to another, and see what comes of it. There are no wrong answers. Without the limits of what should be together, collage asks what could be together. What happens if we add this scrap to that one? What happens if we combine these ideas or perspectives?
